CAREER TIMELINE.

Where it all began

2020 - 2021

At just 10 years old, Buster began his motorsport journey in 2020, getting behind the wheel of a cadet kart and competing in the 4SS category, a grass roots category in karting.

What started as a passion for racing quickly became something much bigger.

From his earliest laps, Buster began developing the fundamentals of race craft, car control, discipline and consistency. Every race provided another opportunity to learn and improve, laying the foundations for the years ahead.

It was the beginning of a journey that would soon take him from local kart tracks to state, national and eventually international competition.

Building the Foundations

2022

With his first season behind him, 2022 became a year of growth, resilience, and valuable experience.

Stepping up from the Cadet ranks into Junior competition, Buster found himself racing against older, more experienced drivers in one of the most competitive fields of his young career. It was a significant transition, requiring him to adapt not only to a faster kart but also to a higher level of competition and race craft.

Rather than being discouraged, Buster embraced the challenge. Race by race, he developed his speed, consistency, and technical understanding while learning what it takes to compete at the next level. Every race meet provided new lessons, helping him build the confidence, resilience, and determination needed to establish himself among more experienced competitors.

Although the results didn't always reflect the progress being made, the season proved invaluable. The experience gained throughout 2022 laid the foundations for what would become a breakthrough year in 2023, giving Buster the skills and confidence to begin challenging at the front of the field.

A Breakthrough Season

2023

After spending 2022 learning, adapting, and finding his place in the Junior ranks, 2023 marked a major breakthrough in Buster's karting career.

The improvement was remarkable. Having spent the previous season battling in the midfield against older, more experienced competitors, Buster transformed into a consistent front-runner. Throughout 2023, he progressed from a mid-pack driver to standing on the podium at almost every race meeting he attended—a testament to the hard work, dedication, and determination invested both on and off the track.

A season of outstanding performances saw Buster crowned the 2023 City to Country Champion, firmly establishing himself as one of Queensland's rising young talents.

He also delivered an impressive performance at the Queensland State Titles, finishing 2nd against some of the state's best Junior drivers and adding another significant achievement to his rapidly growing racing résumé.

Buster's outright speed was evident throughout the season, setting official lap records at Cooloola, Coffs Harbour, and Bundaberg—further proving he had the pace to consistently challenge at the front of the field.

By the conclusion of the 2023 season, Buster had evolved from a young driver finding his feet in Junior competition into a championship-winning racer, capable of consistently fighting for victories and podium finishes. The season not only delivered trophies and records but also confirmed that the investment in his development was paying off, setting the stage for bigger opportunities in 2024.

Stepping Up

2024

Following a breakthrough 2023 season, 2024 marked another important step in Buster's motorsport journey as he transitioned from the grassroots 4SS category into the highly competitive KA3 Junior class.

The move required more than simply driving a faster kart. It meant learning an entirely new two-stroke driving style, adapting to a different kart, and competing against some of the country's strongest young drivers. Guided by James McLaren from the McLaren Academy, 2024 became a year of learning, development, and building the foundations for the future.

The season also saw Buster expand his racing beyond Queensland, contesting Australian State Championship events, including an impressive 4th-place finish at the Tasmanian State Titles. Internationally, he travelled to New Zealand to compete in national-level competition, gaining valuable experience on unfamiliar circuits against quality opposition.

A highlight of the year came in Nelson, New Zealand, where Buster was honoured to win the prestigious Jason Richards Memorial Trophy. Named after the late Supercars driver, remembered for his sportsmanship, determination, resilience, and passion for motorsport—qualities Buster strives to demonstrate both on and off the track.

Although 2024 was less about trophies and more about development, it proved to be one of the most valuable seasons of his career, laying the groundwork for the national and circuit racing opportunities that followed.

Competing on the National Stage

2025

2025 began with one of the biggest experiences of Buster's racing career, travelling to Thailand to compete in the RMC International Trophy Asia. Racing against talented drivers from around the world on an unfamiliar circuit provided invaluable international experience and challenged Buster to quickly adapt to new conditions, different competitors, and a world-class racing environment.

After an exciting start to the year, Buster returned home to contest the Australian Kart Championship (AKC), racing against Australia's leading junior drivers and continuing to refine his racecraft, consistency, and speed on the national stage.

His international campaign also continued across the Tasman, where he competed in New Zealand's KartSport National Championship, further building his experience against quality international competition on unfamiliar circuits.

Adding to a busy season, Buster also contested the Rotax National Championships, broadening his experience across different karting platforms and continuing to challenge himself in highly competitive fields.

Late in the year, Buster stepped from Junior into Senior karting, taking on another significant challenge as he began racing against older, more experienced competitors. The move marked another important milestone in his development and prepared him for the next phase of his motorsport journey.

Alongside his continued karting campaign, Buster also began his transition into car racing through Khanacross, where he immediately demonstrated his adaptability by becoming a Junior Champion and A Class Winner. Those performances led to his progression into Hyundai Excel circuit racing, providing the perfect platform to begin building his experience on four wheels.

A major highlight of the year came when Buster completed a Toyota 86 GR Scholarship Series trial at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia. The experience gave him his first taste of the highly competitive one-make series and laid the foundation for his selection to compete in the Toyota 86 GR Scholarship Series the following season.

By the end of 2025, Buster had established himself as a nationally competitive kart racer while successfully taking his first steps into circuit racing—setting the foundation for an exciting future.

Continuing the Progression

2026

The 2026 season has marked another significant step forward in Buster Bailey's motorsport journey as he continues to build valuable experience in circuit racing.

Competing in multiple Hyundai Excel rounds throughout the season, Buster has continued to develop his race craft, consistency, and technical understanding while gaining invaluable experience in one of Australia's most competitive grassroots racing categories.

Alongside his Excel campaign, Buster was selected to compete in the prestigious Toyota 86 GR Scholarship Series, racing with Method Motorsport under the mentorship of Supercars Champion Chaz Mostert. The opportunity to work alongside an experienced professional team and learn from one of Australia's leading racing drivers has accelerated his development both on and off the track.

The Toyota Scholarship Series challenged Buster to adapt to a new race car, different driving techniques, and a highly competitive environment, further strengthening the skills required to progress through the Australian motorsport pathway.

Away from race weekends, Buster is equally committed to his development. He completes structured driver training on a fortnightly basis, combining high-performance simulator sessions with the Jesse Dixon Race Academy and on-track coaching at Norwell Motorplex under the guidance of Australian motorsport legend Paul Morris’s best instructors. This ongoing training allows Buster to continually refine his race craft, improve his technical understanding, and develop the skills required to compete at the highest level.

Combined with his continued Hyundai Excel competition and professional driver development program, the 2026 season has been an important year of growth as Buster continues his successful transition from an accomplished karting career into circuit racing.

Having already represented himself internationally by racing across Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand, Buster remains committed to gaining as much seat time as possible, embracing every opportunity to learn, and continuing his progression towards achieving his long-term ambition of becoming a professional racing driver.
